Oriel College seeks to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Music to act also as Organising Tutor for the Music students from 1st October 2026 to end of September 2027. Candidates will need to demonstrate suitable qualifications to teach papers for the undergraduate Music syllabus (Prelims and FHS) and will preferably have appropriate experience as well.
The person appointed will be expected to undertake teaching for an average of 2 contact hours per week during term time to undergraduates at Oriel College. The Lecturer will be required to oversee the general administration of undergraduate Music, to be attentive to the pastoral care of undergraduates, and to organise and participate in admissions in weeks 9 and 10 of Michaelmas Term (usually early December). They will also act as college supervisor to the graduate Music students.
The basic stipend will be according to the Senior Tutors’ Committee recommended scale for full-time stipendiary lecturers with a teaching stint of 2 hours per week (approximately £6,223 per annum, depending on experience). Contributory membership of USS (the Universities Superannuation Scheme) is also offered. The post-holder will also have access to a research allocation of £329 per annum (subject to uplift). The Lecturer will be entitled to free lunch and dinner in the Senior Common Room and use of a shared office space.
