Senior Accountant / Management Accountant

Location: Aylesham, Canterbury (CT3 3EP)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £28,000 – £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Senior/Management Accountant to join our growing and dynamic truck rental and maintenance business based in Aylesham. This is a varied and essential role where you will take ownership of the day-to-day finances while supporting the Managing Director with financial insights and decision-making.

This position would suit someone detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

Daily Responsibilities

• Posting receipts and payments to the nominal ledger via bank feeds
• Actively managing and chasing outstanding debtors
• Coding and posting purchase invoices
• Updating daily cashflow spreadsheets

Weekly Responsibilities

• Preparing and processing weekly payroll
• Reconciling and paying HMRC and NEST pension contributions
• Managing supplier payment runs
• Advising the MD on debtor and cashflow issues
• Reconciling supplier statements

Monthly Responsibilities

• Cashbook reconciliation
• Posting month-end journals
• Preparing draft profit & loss and balance sheets for external accountants
• Recording vehicle financing in Xero and updating tracking spreadsheets
• Reconciling and posting credit card transactions

Additional Duties

• Maintaining staff holiday records
• Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns and annual filings
• Assisting with year-end accounts and liaising with auditors
• Managing employee records and onboarding new starters
• Providing financial and basic HR advice to the Managing Director

What We’re Looking For

• Experience in an accounting or finance role (minimum 1 year preferred)
• Strong working knowledge of Xero (preferred)
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• Confident with Excel and financial reporting
• A proactive, “can-do” attitude with the ability to work independently
• Strong communication skills

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or similar (preferred)
