Payroll Officer (Education) – East Ham
ASAP Start Temporary until 30 September 2026
36 hours per week | Monday–Friday
Hourly Rate £19.21- £20.39ph PAYE
Enhanced DBS and screening required
Are you an experienced Payroll Officer with a strong background in education and pensions?
We’re recruiting for a key interim opportunity within a busy college environment where your expertise will directly support accurate, compliant payroll delivery.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of end-to-end payroll operations within a collaborative HR and Finance team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the monthly payroll cycle, ensuring accuracy and timely processing
- Maintaining payroll records including starters, leavers, and contractual changes
- Ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, LGPS pension schemes, and GDPR
- Acting as the first point of contact for payroll queries, delivering expert support
- Supporting reporting, audits, and reconciliations
- Collaborating with HR and Finance to ensure data accuracy across systems
- Driving improvements in payroll processes and efficiencies
- Managing payroll inbox queries and liaising with external providers

We’re looking for someone with:
- Proven experience in a Payroll Officer/Specialist role (5–10+ years)
- Strong experience within an education setting
- Working knowledge of the LGPS pension scheme
- Experience using iTrent payroll system
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- A proactive, team-focused approach
Qualifications (desirable):
- CIPP Level 3
- AAT Level 2 or 3
