About The Role
We are currently seeking an Associate Lecturer in Functional Skills / Community to join our Adult and Community Learning and ESOL department at The Bedford College Group.
As an Associate Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
- Teaching, Learning & Functional Skills Delivery – Plan, deliver and assess high‑quality Functional Skills English (Entry to Level 2) and community courses, supporting adult learners to develop confidence and progression pathways.
- Curriculum Planning & Learner Support – Develop inclusive lessons and resources, embed employability and digital skills, and support recruitment, enrolment and induction in community settings.
- Assessment, Exams & Data Management – Maintain accurate records (ILPs, attendance, tracking), coordinate exam processes and ensure compliance with awarding body requirements.
- Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement – Contribute to QA processes, moderation and CPD, using learner feedback and performance data to enhance teaching and outcomes.
- Professional Practice, Collaboration & Compliance – Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners, uphold safeguarding, Prevent, EDI and health & safety requirements, and support wider college activities and events.
About You
- Qualifications & Functional Skills Expertise – Recognised teaching qualification with Level 2 English/Maths, supported by experience delivering Functional Skills across Entry to Level 2 and commitment to ongoing CPD.
- Teaching, Learning & Inclusive Practice – Proven ability to deliver engaging, learner‑centred teaching, using differentiated strategies to support diverse learners, including ESOL backgrounds.
- Assessment, Compliance & Awarding Body Knowledge – Strong understanding of assessment processes and awarding body standards, ensuring accurate tracking, feedback and learner progression.
- Digital Skills, Systems & Classroom Management – Confident in using digital platforms (e.g. Teams, ProMonitor) to manage learning, with excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
- Professional Approach, Collaboration & Values – Positive, proactive and solution‑focused, able to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining a strong commitment to improving learner outcomes.
What is an Associate?
Associates work on a short-term basis as assigned. They teach or provide support services, and they work with and are supported by core staff. As an Associate you will be issued with an Associate Agreement, under this Agreement period you will be eligible to work on assignments offered to you.
