Job Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of our psychosocial interventions (PSI) groupwork programme. As a groupworker within Horizons Specialist Drug & Alcohol Service, you’ll make a real difference to people’s lives as you empower and enable people to make changes around their drug or alcohol use. You’ll support the implementation of the psychosocial group interventions programme, under the direction of the groupwork and psychological leads.
The Horizons groupwork team is based in our central Bristol hub, and you will be responsible for facilitating groups across Horizons north, south, and central hubs.
Passionate about people, you’ll be supported to make the role your own as part of Horizons multidisciplinary organisation, working alongside clinicians, recovery practitioners and peer mentors.
We value individual creativity and initiative and, whatever your role, you will be fully involved in identifying opportunities to improve the quality of our services and the service user experience. Your ideas will be listened to, and your suggestions implemented wherever possible. You will be supported in your role by extensive training to help develop your skills. Our learning culture encourages everyone to stay on top of the latest developments in their field and helps drive service improvement.
The salary scale for our Recovery Worker roles is between £25,870 – £30,265. See our full salary scale below. Starting salary will be dependant on experience with annual pay progression up to scale point 5.

The PSI Facilitator will be responsible for delivering multiple group sessions each week, covering a variety of topics, and supporting service users to move successfully through treatment.
Using Horizons evidence-based programmes, you will support people to access groupwork programmes as part of a personal treatment goal. Working with other staff within the team, you will deliver a range of alcohol and substance-use programmes, offering skills and knowledge to support long-term recovery.
You will also be responsible for managing the related record-keeping, risk and safeguarding concerns that may arise.
You’ll have a good knowledge of the complexities behind alcohol and other substance use, and the challenges that may face individuals on their recovery journey. A compassionate approach and commitment to harm reduction is central to how we work.
You’ll have an understanding of the theory and benefits of groupwork, with experience of groupwork programmes, as well as experience of using therapeutic skills to help empower service users to make sustained changes to their life.
The role is varied, so flexibility, the ability to work on a one-to-one and group basis, and knowledge of relapse prevention and other skills to promote recovery will be vital. Dynamic risk assessment and an understanding of safeguarding principles are also essential for the role.
Working with difference, diversity and adversity is at the heart of Horizons’ values, together with a thorough understanding of how this might affect people accessing drug and alcohol treatment. We actively encourage applications from people with lived experience.
The ideal candidate would have experience of working with people using alcohol and other drugs, but specialised training will be offered as part of the role induction. You will have a passion for leading change and an excellent level of communication and organisational skills, including robust IT and confidential administrative skills.
