The Role

This is a hands-on technical leadership role within a scaling engineering team. You’ll lead backend engineering across multiple client platforms, helping define architectural direction, engineering standards, and delivery practices across modern cloud-native systems.

You’ll work closely with engineering leadership, cloud teams, designers, and stakeholders while mentoring developers and shaping the future of backend engineering within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead backend engineering strategy and technical direction across projects
• Design and deliver scalable Node.js and TypeScript microservices
• Define architecture standards, API strategy, and engineering best practices
• Drive cloud-native development patterns across AWS and Azure environments
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, coaching, and technical leadership
• Collaborate with stakeholders on technical scoping and delivery planning
• Champion engineering quality, CI/CD, observability, and maintainability
• Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to long-term platform strategy

What You’ll Need

Essential

• 8+ years’ commercial backend engineering experience
• Strong Node.js and TypeScript expertise
• Experience leading engineering teams or technical direction
• Strong cloud experience across AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Proven experience building scalable APIs and distributed systems
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, and cloud-native engineering
• Nice to Have
• Event-driven architecture experience
• Terraform or Infrastructure-as-Code exposure
• Enterprise integration or composable commerce experience
