Senior Carer
Β£16 per hour
The Senior Carer plays a vital, hands-on leadership role within our visiting care team, bridging the gap between Coordinator/Management and frontline hourly carers. Reporting to the Operations Support Manager, you will support, mentor, and monitor Care Assistants, upholding the highest standards of person-centered care delivery, consistency, and compliance. We are specifically looking for a Senior Carer to join our on-call team.
This role involves flexible/rotational shifts, including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Your role combines hands-on care, staff supervision, and essential on-call administrative support:
Care and Quality Assurance
β Provide direct personal care and support to clients, including assistance with mobility, medication administration, personal hygiene, meal preparation, and companionship.
β Provide essential emergency cover for care visits, often at short notice due to staff absence or operational needs.
β Regularly review and audit daily care notes and electronic records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
β Assist the Operations Manager with care plan reviews and updates as required.
β Report any changes in a client’s health, living circumstances, or care needs immediately.
Staff Support and Development
β Conduct in-field competency checks for new Care Assistants following their induction training.
β Conduct scheduled and unscheduled spot checks/supervisory visits on Carers to ensure adherence to care plans and professional standards.
β Conduct regular telephone calls or virtual check-ins with Carers to offer support, gauge workload, and ensure well-being.
On-Call and Administration
β Answering incoming calls and dealing with a wide variety of queries from carers, Care Managers, and clients.
β Making outbound support calls to Carers.
β Dealing with incidentsβreviewing, supporting, and escalating.
β Liaising with the HR team and scheduling team on absence management and carer availability.
β Being responsible for the opening, closing, reviewing, and assigning of issues raised via an electronic platform.
β Preparing handover documents for the on-call team.

Required Skills, Attributes, and Qualifications
β Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Care Assistant in a home care setting.
β Possession of or working towards an NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
β Full UK Driving License and access to reliable transportation is essential.
β Demonstrable experience in mentoring, guiding, or supervising colleagues is highly desirable.
β Knowledge of CQC and safeguarding/regulations.
β Strong organisational and time management abilities, with an ability to multitask and work to challenging deadlines.
β Ability to prioritise effectively, plan, and organise.
β Excellent customer service, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
β Ability to handle emergencies, deal with difficult situations, and work calmly at a fast pace.
β Proficiency in IT/digital care record systems.
