Position: Health and Wellbeing Adviser (Weight Management & Alcohol)
About the role
Horsham District Council are looking for a Health and Wellbeing Adviser to join our established Health and Wellbeing Team to support the delivery of the Wellbeing Service across the Horsham District. The Wellbeing service is part of a county-wide programme in West Sussex to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent ill-health within our local communities. The service provides information, advice and signposts local people to services for help and support.
As Health and Wellbeing Adviser you will be responsible for providing one-to-one advice, support and motivation to adults wishing to improve their health and wellbeing through behaviour change. You will support the delivery of the Horsham Wellbeing Alcohol Reduction service by providing one-to-one appointments (in person, via telephone or online) to adults who are drinking at Increasing risk and Higher risk levels in order to prevent alcohol-related harm and possible future dependence on alcohol.
You will also deliver 12-week weight management programmes to groups of adults who have a BMI of 25-40 providing them with the skills and knowledge to help them achieve and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. There will also be a requirement to deliver one-to-one smoking cessation interventions.
This is a fixed term contract with extension beyond 31st March 2027 subject to a new partnership agreement with West Sussex County Council Public Health. The post holder will report directly to the Wellbeing Team Leader and will be based at our Wellbeing Hub in Swan Walk (Horsham) or delivering within the community. This is a part-time role at 22.2 hours per week, Monday to Wednesday.

you
To succeed as Health and Wellbeing Adviser, you will be highly motivated with a good understanding of healthy lifestyles and wellbeing issues. You will have a relevant qualification in nutrition and experience of delivering health and wellbeing advice and support to both individuals and groups, using brief interventions and/or motivational interviewing techniques. You will have excellent organisation skills and be able to manage conflicting priorities, have good interpersonal and communication skills, be reliable and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
You will be able to work proactively and on your own initiative.
This post requires flexibility, as some weekend and regular evening work will be required. This role requires travelling across Horsham District and therefore, you must have a full UK driving licence and access to a car.
