The role/category
ESOL, COMESOL and Functional skills English / GCSE English tutor part-time
Are you a passionate ESOL tutor with the skills to also teach English? Do you enjoy making a difference to people’s lives through education and supporting adults to improve their English language skills?
Perhaps you are looking to combine your teaching skills with part-time flexible hours to suit your current work life balance.
If this applies to you, please read on to find out more about our vacancies and what Adult Learning Lewisham can offer.
To meet the demand from learners, we are looking to fill vacancies at different levels in both accredited and non-accredited ESOL, COMESOL and Functional Skills English courses from New to ESOL to L2 ESOL and Functional Skills English to GCSE. We are particularly keen to employ evening tutors, although we also have vacancies for daytime classes. There are also opportunities to cover tutors when they are unavailable. We work with our tutors to develop a timetable which fits in with their availability.
We aim to meet the ongoing demand of adults who seek to improve their English language skills, enhance their career prospects and flourish.
We are a well-established and ambitious adult community learning (ACL) provider, offering a wide range of courses across Lewisham from our centres located in Granville Park (Lewisham), Grove Park and Brockley Rise (SE23). We are proud to offer high quality courses to diverse groups of adult learners who successfully develop skills, gain qualifications and achieve their long-term goals. ESOL and English courses run in the daytime and evenings with sessions ranging from 4.0 to 5.0 hours per week across the academic year. You may want to teach one course, or a variety of courses.
Working as part of a team, you will support the pre-course assessment of learners, where their needs are identified and they are allocated to appropriate courses. You will be responsible for planning and delivering courses, addressing learner needs and supporting learners in progressing, achieving their goals and gaining a qualification (where applicable).
Upon successful recruitment, you will receive an in-depth induction into the service. We will provide you with ongoing support with our MIS and VLE systems. You will have regular opportunities to share best teaching practices and attend staff development events.
