Planning EngineerLeading International Engineering Contractor | Nuclear Infrastructure | Workington-based | Staff Role | Competitive Salary The OpportunityWe’re recruiting a Planning Engineer to join our clients team managing programme planning and scheduling on major nuclear infrastructure projects. You’ll be responsible for preparing detailed programmes for design, construction and commissioning activities, managing schedules through feasibility, option selection and pre-construction phases, working across multiple concurrent projects and client sites.Position Details: Permanent Staff Role | Competitive salary | Based in Workington | Full-time office with 1 day remote working post-probation | SC clearance required (ability to obtain)This role is for an experienced planning engineer with nuclear industry background. You’ll be central to programme delivery across multiple concurrent projects, collaborating with engineering teams, construction crews, client planning functions and subcontractors. You’ll report to the Planning Manager and provide planning support, advice and coordination across all stakeholder groups.What You’ll Be DoingProgramme Planning & SchedulingPrepare overall programmes, updates and submissions in full compliance with contract requirementsDevelop resource-loaded programmes, schedules and supporting reportsReview weekly look-ahead programmes from package managersManage feasibility and option selection planning and programmesConduct plausibility reviews of own and others’ programmesSchedule Management & ControlManage change control, assessment and implementationSchedule and communicate preliminary works and temporary worksBuild allowances into programmes for risk, HSQE, environmental and other constraintsCollaborate with Planning Manager to ensure efficient resourcing across multiple projectsReview daily records and highlight construction progress concerns, scope changes and delay impactsCoordination & Stakeholder EngagementCollaborate with designers, contractors and stakeholders on programme deliveryAttend weekly planning, progress and coordination meetingsParticipate in risk reduction meetings and progress reportingProvide planning advice and direct support to sector leaders, clients and contractorsContribute to task and project quotation preparationTechnical PlanningPrepare visual material supporting planned methods and programme deliveryUndertake programme risk analysisContribute to 4D time sequence planning using Syncro or similar applicationsEvaluate cost, time and HSEQ impacts of changes and delaysCompliance & QualityEnsure all client and company planning processes and procedures are implementedMaintain minimum standards of safety, quality and environmental complianceChallenge and change poor practice in safety, quality and planning proceduresSupport continuous improvement and learning from experienceAbout YouEssential Qualifications & ExperienceDegree in civil engineering or infrastructure engineering discipline -or equivalent professional qualificationMinimum 3 years’ experience preparing project programmes for Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractorsMUST HAVE: Nuclear industry experience -demonstrated background on nuclear or similar regulated infrastructure projectsCompetent in planning software – experienced using industry-standard scheduling applications (Microsoft Project, Primavera or similar)Strong understanding of:Construction methods and delivery sequencesConditions of contract and contractual planning clausesCommercial and contractual interfaces with planning functionClient planning and project control policies and proceduresStakeholder and approval authority proceduresMicrosoft Office proficiency -particularly Excel and ProjectAbility to prepare own schedules -quantities, outputs, rates and durationsSafety and HSQE focused -work with safety and environmental compliance at the forefrontStrong communication skills -confident engaging with engineering teams, contractors, clients and stakeholdersCollaborative approach -comfortable working across multi-disciplinary teams and driving programme coordinationDesirableCSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)Current SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or NEBOSH qualificationCertified training in planning software -formal qualifications in Primavera, Microsoft Project or similarExperience with PowerBI and other reporting applicationsExperience on large, complex infrastructure or nuclear projectsFamiliarity with gated project processes and client project control platforms4D planning experience using Syncro or similar applicationsSecurity ClearanceYou must be able to obtain SC (Security Clearance) to work on this nuclear facility project. BPSS is the minimum starting point.The Role in PracticeYou’ll be based in Workington, working a full-time office-based role, with the possibility of 1 day remote working after probation.
