Bookkeeper Job at Shirley, West Midlands (County) Full Time NEW

We are working with a well established accountancy practice based in Solihull who are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to join their friendly and supportive team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice who is looking to develop their career in a flexible and professional working environment.

The successful candidate will manage bookkeeping responsibilities for a varied portfolio of clients across multiple industries, supporting both clients and the wider accounts team with accurate financial reporting and VAT compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients
• Process and reconcile bank transactions, sales ledgers, and purchase ledgers
• Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with current HMRC regulations
• Liaise directly with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
• Assist with the preparation of management accounts and year-end accounts
• Work with cloud-based accounting software including Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage
• Support clients with bookkeeping queries and software-related assistance
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and colleagues

Requirements

Essential

• Minimum 2 years’ bookkeeping experience, ideally within an accountancy practice
• Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and VAT processes
• Experience using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
• Ability to manage multiple client accounts and meet deadlines effectively
• Excellent communication and organisational skills

Desirable

• Experience using cloud-based apps such as Dext or Hubdoc
• Familiarity with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements
