Key job responsibilities
• Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems
• Conduct routine plant inspections and equipment checks to ensure systems are operating correctly
• Monitor alarms and system performance using Building Management Systems (BMS) and other monitoring tools
• Assist with fault finding and troubleshooting across infrastructure systems including power distribution and cooling equipment
• Support operation and testing of critical systems including diesel generators, UPS systems, switchgear and cooling equipment
• Supervise specialist vendors performing maintenance or repair activities on site
• Follow permit-to-work and safety procedures for all maintenance and operational activities
• Participate in incident response and support troubleshooting during infrastructure events
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and operational logs
• Support testing activities including generator tests and infrastructure failover exercises
A day in the life
• Performing daily plant inspections across electrical and mechanical infrastructure
• Monitoring alarms and system status through the Building Management System (BMS)
• Responding to infrastructure alerts and assisting with initial troubleshooting
• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance tasks on site equipment
• Supporting generator tests and infrastructure system checks
• Supervising vendors performing maintenance activities
• Completing shift logs, plant status reports and operational handovers
About the team
The Data Centre Engineering Operations (DCEO) team is responsible for maintaining the critical infrastructure that supports AWS data centres. Our technicians operate and maintain complex mechanical and electrical systems that provide reliable power and cooling for AWS cloud services.
The team works in a highly operational, safety-focused environment, where attention to detail and strong technical skills are essential to maintaining service availability.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– Knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls)
– Can use hands to manipulate small wires and objects
– Can walk on job sites in uneven terrain
– Can work at heights and from ladders
– Experience understanding electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, or air handling units
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience in data center engineering
– Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
– Knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/ fiber) cabling
– Experience in data center engineering
– Can perform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tired
