Join our Investigating Committee
Read on to find out what you will need to succeed in this position, including skills, qualifications, and experience.
We are seeking a Lay Chair to lead our Investigating Committee (IC). This is a significant opportunity to guide fair, evidence-based decision-making for a modern, inclusive and innovative healthcare regulator.
About the role
As Chair, you will provide clear leadership to the panel, ensuring discussions are focused, fair and well managed. You will support the Committee in reaching balanced, defensible decisions, uphold due process, and ensure that all members contribute effectively.
Your leadership will help maintain public confidence in the integrity and independence of our work.
About the Investigating Committee
The IC considers concerns raised about osteopaths and decides whether there is a ‘case to answer’. It also has the power to impose interim suspensions where necessary. As Chair, you will guide the panel through this process, ensuring that all views are heard, evidence is properly evaluated, and decisions are grounded in fairness, independence and the public interest.
Who we are looking for
We welcome applications from people who value fairness, independence and public protection. You will be able to weigh up complex evidence, exercise sound judgement, and appreciate both the importance of safeguarding the public and the contribution osteopaths make to healthcare.
At the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), we believe diversity strengthens our work. We encourage applications from the widest possible field of candidates across the UK and particularly welcome applications from people living or working in Northern Ireland, Scotland, or Wales.
Time commitment and remuneration
Up to 15 days per year, depending on caseload
Additional time for mandatory training, reading and annual reviews
£340 daily fee, plus £50 Chairing allowance per day
Reasonable travel and subsistence expenses
Appointment begins 1 April 2027 for up to four years
