Permanent, Full-TimeAbout the RoleAn established engineering organisation with a long-standing history dating back to the late 1800s is seeking a skilled Machinist / Mechanical Fitter to join its team. The business supports a diverse client base of over 3,500 customers across the UK, including major manufacturers and globally recognised brands.Specialising in asset performance optimisation, the company delivers services across motors, gearboxes, pumps, machining, induction, condition monitoring and fabrication.This position is based within a toolroom environment, focusing largely on one-off components and bespoke engineering work.Key ResponsibilitiesSet up and operate manual machinery including lathes, milling machines, radial drills, grinders and borersCarry out mechanical repairs including reclamation of worn shafts, bearings, housings and threadsWork to tight tolerances (typically down to 0.001′) on industrial equipmentAccurately use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, callipers, slip gauges and depth gaugesManufacture new components from engineering drawings or reverse-engineered specificationsMaintain accurate records of dimensions, limits and fits in a low-volume, high-precision environmentPromote and adhere to safe working practices at all timesSkills & ExperienceSecondary school education or equivalentCompleted engineering apprenticeship (preferred)Practical, hands-on machining experience gained through on-the-job trainingStrong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and repair techniquesHigh level of attention to detail and accuracyWhat’s on OfferStable, permanent employment within a well-established engineering environmentOpportunity to work on varied, bespoke projectsSupportive team culture with a strong focus on safety and quality
