Nurture Lead – Gateshead (Maternity Cover | September Start) We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Nurture Lead to join a specialist SEN provision in the Gateshead area from September, covering a maternity leave. This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident Nurture Lead to take on a key role within a highly supportive setting, working with pupils with complex needs.
This role is based within the PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) provision, supporting a small group of pupils aged 5–15 who are working at P1–P3 levels. The successful Nurture Lead will take responsibility for a small group of learners and play a vital role in leading support staff and ensuring high-quality, consistent provision.
Working Pattern
- Monday to Thursday – Full Days
Key Responsibilities
- Lead support for a small group of 3 pupils as a Nurture Lead within a PMLD setting.
- Work closely with pupils working at P1–P3 levels, supporting their learning, communication, and development.
- As a Nurture Lead, manage and support a small team of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), ensuring effective teamwork and consistency.
- Deliver personalised support plans tailored to each pupil’s individual needs.
- Work collaboratively with external professionals, including therapists and specialist teachers.
- Support pupils’ physical, sensory, and communication needs through structured and nurturing approaches.
- Monitor and report on pupil progress and engagement.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
- Ensure safeguarding procedures and policies are followed at all times.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience working as a Nurture Lead or in a senior TA role – essential.
- Strong experience supporting pupils with complex SEND, particularly PMLD – essential.
- Experience working with pupils at P1–P3 levels – highly desirable.
- Confidence in leading a small team and supporting colleagues.
- Experience working alongside external professionals such as therapists.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and behaviour management skills.
- A patient, caring, and resilient approach.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
