Senior Finance Assistant
Annual Salary: £32,000 – £38,000
Location: Chelmsford
Job Type: Full-time, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm
We are seeking a Senior Finance Assistant to join our client’s finance team. This role is ideal for a confident, organised, and technically strong individual who can take ownership of key finance processes while supporting the wider finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of financial tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance across multiple entities.
Duties of the role:
Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns across multiple entities.
Manage intercompany invoicing, recharges, and reconciliations.
Reconcile intercompany balances and resolve discrepancies.
Conduct daily and monthly bank reconciliations, including multi-currency accounts.
Post accruals, prepayments, and month-end journals.
Support month-end close and management accounts preparation.
Process and review sales and purchase invoices.
Manage supplier payment runs and reconcile supplier statements.
Maintain accurate sales, purchase, and nominal ledgers.
Review aged debtors and creditors and resolve outstanding balances.
Clear historic balances, unreconciled items, and process authorised write-offs.
Reconcile balance sheet control accounts and maintain supporting schedules.
Assist with audit requirements and statutory compliance.
Act as a senior point of contact for finance queries within the team.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years’ experience within a finance function.
Proven experience in roles such as Senior Finance Assistant, Assistant Accountant, or similar.
Strong experience with VAT returns, intercompany accounting, accruals, and prepayments.
Proficient in bank reconciliation and balance sheet reconciliation.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong working knowledge of Sage 50.
Experience using a Cloud ERP system.
AAT qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience.
ACCA/CIMA studies would be advantageous but not essential.
Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
