Our small and highly regarded TESSA Hearing education team is looking for a motivated and dedicated Teacher of the Deaf, who is qualified with the mandatory qualification or willing to train via a 2 year part-time course. The role is part-time (2.5 or 3 days) but we are looking to plan for the future and may expand the role to full time.

Your role and expectations

As a Teacher of the Deaf for TESSA (Targeted Education and Specialist Support and Advice) you will promote inclusive education and offer specialist support, teaching, advice and audiological management to deaf children and young people in the home, nursery, school and college.

As well as being a great teacher who can fulfil all the expectations of the teaching profession (QTS), you will uniquely, as a Teacher of the Deaf in St Helens:

• Travel daily between office bases, children’s homes, nurseries, schools and colleges – transport is needed for this role
• Be highly organised, effectively managing your diary and be confident in working alone and with others in the team
• Be skilled in learning and accurately using new IT systems and processes and adapting to a remote working style
• Have a good understanding of deafness and the implications on language development, learning and self identity
• Collaborate professionally, demonstrating integrity, humility and understanding at all times
• Build long term positive relationships with children and their families, sometimes from birth
• Be skilled and knowledgeable about specialist equipment and technology for deaf children and young people
• Have, or develop, a good understanding of deaf education, aiming to remove barriers to learning and create independence
• Advise on person centred outcomes, contributing to statutory assessments (EHCP), annual reviews etc
• Embrace the imminent National changes to SEND support, contributing to local developments over time
