About the Electoral Commission
The Electoral Commission is the UK’s independent body overseeing elections and regulating political finance. Everything we do is about ensuring trust, participation, and integrity in the democratic process.
As we enter a bold new chapter under our five-year Corporate Plan, we are increasing our workforce and transforming how we plan and deliver core services. This post plays a central role in that journey.
About the role
We’re looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to help support and develop our core IT systems across cloud and on-premises environments. This is a hands-on technical role with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure, networking, and infrastructure operations.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring our infrastructure is secure, scalable, and reliable, supporting colleagues across the organisation to work efficiently and safely. Alongside core infrastructure responsibilities, this role offers a structured pathway into cyber security, providing valuable exposure to security tools, practices, and frameworks.
Key responsibilities include:
This is an excellent opportunity to build broad infrastructure expertise while developing into cyber security.
About the team
You’ll join a collaborative IT function within the Regulation and Digital Transformation directorate, working closely with Senior Infrastructure and Cyber Security leads.
The team is responsible for delivering secure, reliable, and modern IT services across the Commission, supporting colleagues in multiple locations. We work in a highly collaborative way, sharing knowledge and continuously improving our systems and processes.
There is a strong focus on learning and development, particularly in cyber security, with opportunities to gain exposure to new technologies, formal training, and industry-recognised certifications.
Who we’re looking for
This role would suit someone with a solid foundation in infrastructure or IT support who is looking to develop their technical skills and progress their career, particularly into cloud and cyber security.
You’ll be someone who enjoys problem-solving, takes ownership of issues, and is eager to learn in a fast-evolving environment.
We’re particularly interested in candidates who have:
It would also be beneficial if you have:
Why work for us?
This is a great opportunity to join a purpose-driven organisation where your work directly supports the democratic process in the UK.
You’ll gain broad, hands-on experience across cloud infrastructure, networking, and security, with a clear pathway to develop into cyber security. We’re committed to supporting your professional growth through training, mentoring, and certification opportunities.
We offer a strong total reward package, including:
