Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This role will be based on a secure site.
Your future duties and responsibilities
As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will help ensure the availability, resilience and performance of mission-critical services supporting national security programmes. You will work closely with software engineers, platform teams and stakeholders to automate operational processes, improve observability and enhance system reliability. In this role, you will take ownership of service health, contribute to platform evolution and help create scalable solutions that enable teams to deliver high-quality outcomes efficiently and securely.
You will play a key role in strengthening Kubernetes-based environments, supporting deployment automation and driving continuous improvement across infrastructure and operations. Working within Agile teams, you will investigate incidents, identify root causes and implement preventative measures that improve long-term service stability and operational effectiveness.
Key responsibilities:
Improve & Enhance service reliability, availability and operational resilience
Automate & Optimise infrastructure, operational workflows and platform processes
Design & Implement monitoring, alerting and observability solutions
Support & Scale Kubernetes and containerised environments
Develop & Deliver CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation capabilities
Investigate & Resolve incidents, conducting root cause analysis and remediation
Enhance & Improve platform performance, scalability and efficiency
Collaborate & Contribute within Agile, cross-functional delivery teams
Drive & Champion continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
To succeed in this role, you should have practical experience supporting modern cloud-native platforms and a strong understanding of reliability engineering principles. You will be comfortable working across infrastructure, automation and software engineering disciplines, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and contribute to highly available, scalable environments.
Essential qualifications and experience:
Experience with Kubernetes and containerised environments
Strong knowledge of monitoring, logging and observability tooling
Linux administration and troubleshooting expertise
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and release automation practices
Understanding of incident management and service reliability methodologies
Programming or scripting experience in Go, Python, Java and/or Bash
Experience working with Git-based development workflows
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to work effectively within Agile delivery teams
